(Richmond, VA – January 19, 2010): Turnkey Promotions, a Richmond-based promotions company specializing in nonprofit fundraising, announced today that Dr. Victoria Shaffer of Wichita State University and Katrina VanHuss of Turnkey Promotions are currently seeking up to 20 nonprofit organizations (NPOs) to participate in a research study. The study will explore the relationship between event incentive program product choice and fundraiser motivation/event income level. Participants will gain access to the entire ROI analysis and study results prior to publication and will also receive discounted incentive products and marketing communications program for their fundraising event.
About This Study
This study will focus on fundraiser behaviors in relation to particular types of products. The research will answer these two fundamental questions:
1. What type of incentive products best motivate event fundraisers?
2. How do commonly found/retail-available incentive products compare with nonretail/NPO logo-branded incentive products? Example: iPod vs. NPO-logo imprinted jacket.
Nonprofit Participant Qualifications
To qualify for this study, NPO must have at least three events of similar size and infrastructure. Each event will have a different product set in place.
Methodology
Ideally each set of products would be tested within one event where all other variables remain constant. However, since event participants typically communicate about the incentive program, it is believed that the integrity of the research results would be compromised if all three programs are run simultaneously in a single event. This study will be designed such that each version of the incentive program is run at a different event, making the smallest study size to include three events, one having each program.
These events should have similar infrastructure in as many ways as possible: urban vs. rural, number of participants, one mission brand, etc. In order to normalize the experience as much as possible, pre-event communications regarding the incentive program will be managed by Turnkey, and only those participants with whom Turnkey can communicate via email will be considered for analysis. All participants, whether meeting the criteria for analysis or not, will be exposed to the incentive program.
Products
It is important that retail-available and nonretail/branded items are as equivalent as possible (e.g. pink IPod with Susan G. Komen logo versus an iPod. At minimum, items should have similar dollar value with the understanding that adding a logo adds cost).
Research Design
Program/Group 1: Will be given a choice between luxury retail-available items and NPO-branded items
Program/Group 2: Will be given choice of only NPO-branded items
Program/Group 3: Will be given choice of only luxury retail-available items
Dependent Measures
1. Amount of fundraising first year, second year
2. Satisfaction with incentive*
3. Volunteer retention**
4. Redemption %
*Satisfaction with incentive will be measured via a short email survey after the fundraising activity is over and incentives have been redeemed.
**The ability to define volunteer retention will depend on each NPO’s ability to track returning participants.
